The term “shore” refers to the interface between water and land. Visually, it presents the possibility of various lines and shapes, which may be straight or zigzag, complete or broken, clear or blurred. The shore is not fixed and permanent. With the rise and fall of water or the accumulation and erosion of land masses, it continues to advance and retreat and evolve into rich layers. In the Chinese context, shore is not only a geographical word, but also often symbolizes multiple meanings of starting point, original intention, destination, return or even hope. Looking back on my Drip Painting series since 2016, the basic elements in the painting: water, sky, and earth, often use a clear or vague shore as the key image to express the distance and perspective of space. After comprehensively sorting out my composition techniques and environment-creating tendencies, I named this new series of paintings “Shore” that I started at the beginning of this year, because shore is the subject matter and element in these paintings, and it is also an index of the symbol of inner state of mind.
