Ming Chuan University’s Department of Commercial Design shone at the 2026 New Generation Design Exhibition, with student works standing out among numerous entries from design schools nationwide. The department won multiple awards at the Golden Pin Design Awards, showcasing Ming Chuan’s creative strength in visual communication, issue research, publishing design, and interdisciplinary integration. The award list shows that “Project Lutes” received recognition in the Communication Design category of the Golden Pin Design Awards, and “Whooo” won the Sei La Nova Rising Star Award.
The award-winning work, “Lotus Morphology Lab,” was a collaborative creation by Chou Yu-Hsuan, Ho Szu-Jung, Shen Chih-Tsen, and Liu Ying-Shan, under the guidance of Chen Kuo-Yi-Yen and Yu Shu-Yin. The work uses the concept of a “lotus morphology laboratory,” transcending the existing cultural symbolism of the lotus and returning to the plant itself for observation and visual translation. Through the analysis of over a hundred lotus samples, it establishes a design outcome that combines research, systematic approach, and publishing aesthetics.
Another work, “Whooo,” was created collaboratively by Song Cairong, Chen Yating, Chen Qianrong, and Chen Yixuan, with guidance from Feng Chengzhi and Su Wenxiang. The work centers on “Rediscovering the Formosan Owl,” highlighting the survival challenges faced by native owls due to habitat destruction and human interference. Through the interaction of sound, sight, and light, it conveys the concept that “only by being heard can they be seen,” raising public awareness of ecological conservation.
Ming Chuan University’s Department of Commercial Design has long emphasized cultivating students’ design thinking, issue observation, and practical creative abilities, encouraging them to respond to natural, cultural, and social issues through design. This achievement at the New Generation Design Award not only recognizes the creative results of students’ graduation projects but also demonstrates the department’s profound success in professional design education and talent cultivation.
