The “Island & Town Together: Xiao Liuqiu Sustainable Design Promotion Project” (島鎮做伙), executed collaboratively by Ming Chuan University Commercial Design Department faculty, students, and industry partners, won Third Place in the Industry–Academia Collaboration Category at the 24th Golden Print Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan. This recognition celebrates the project’s success in translating creative design into tangible social sustainability practices.
The project explored the ecological balance of Xiao Liuqiu, focusing on the protection and restoration of biodiversity, and transformed these insights into concrete design actions and communications that promote sustainable awareness while fulfilling university social responsibility. Under the guidance of Department Chair Yu Shu-Yin and Assistant Professor Su Wen-Hsiang, faculty and students, together with Kang Bao Xing Visual Technology, conducted field research and in-depth interviews, collaborating with local residents to explore sustainable transformation possibilities.
This award not only acknowledges the professional skills and initiative of the faculty and students but also highlights the department’s strength in community-based design, sustainable education, and local revitalization. Looking forward, the team aims to continue using design as a bridge to connect with local communities and promote shared growth, embodying the philosophy that “design is not just about solving problems—it’s a way to respond to the world.”
Special thanks to the guiding faculty, industry mentors, participating residents, and student collaborators—this honor belongs to everyone who worked together toward this goal.
