Professor Chiung-Fen Wang of the Department of Commercial Design at Ming Chuan University incorporates real-world competitions into her packaging design course as part of the students’ practical training. She encourages students to transform the packaging strategies, creative concepts, and visual design skills they learn in class into fully developed works and put them to the test in actual competitions.
In the 2026 Wrap It Up! Campus Packaging Design Competition, organized by Straight A (STUDIO A), three works submitted by students from Ming Chuan University’s Department of Commercial Design all received awards, standing out among 162 teams and 310 students from Taiwan and Hong Kong. Liu Tzu-Chi’s Rippleborn and Huang Chia-Hui’s 萌境製造 (Moe-land Manufacturing), both from the Department of Commercial Design’s fourth-year Class B, received the Best Design Award, while Chiang Tsung-Chun’s Minimalist Blue & White received the Emerging Talent Award.
Notably, winners of the Best Design Award receive an iPad Air 128GB and an Apple Pencil Pro, while recipients of the Emerging Talent Award receive an iPad 128GB.
Through its teaching approach of “courses as real-world practice and assignments as competitions,” Ming Chuan’s Department of Commercial Design enables students to gain authentic competition experience throughout their coursework. From pitching and creative development to final presentation, students develop the design capabilities and practical experience required by the industry. Rather than simply completing assignments, students are given the opportunity to bring their classroom projects to the competitive stage, transforming their design skills into a competitive advantage for future academic pursuits and professional careers.
