Four Comic Works Receive Recognition, Highlighting Innovative Teaching and International Collaboration!

The Department of Commercial Design at Ming Chuan University achieved remarkable results in the 114th National Student Art Competition, organized by the Ministry of Education. In the Comics Category, students earned one First-Class Award and three Merit Awards, with works covering diverse themes such as AI ethics, ecological conservation, parent-child relationships, and cultural beliefs, showcasing the next generation of designers’ visual storytelling skills and social awareness.

Notable works include:

  • Liao Zhi-Jie’s “The Copied Soul”, exploring the crisis of AI replication in creative work – awarded First-Class.

  • Lin Qin-Yun’s “The e-Generation Arrives: A Parent-Child Diary with Smartphones”, reflecting on digital parenting.

  • Wu Zhi-Xian’s “A World of Hope”, advocating for ocean conservation.

  • Lin Xin-Hui’s “Memory of Incense”, blending academic pressure with religious and cultural themes. Three of these works received Merit Awards.

The winning entries were guided by Feng, Cheng-Chih (Associate Professor), Assistant Professor Chen GoYen, and Chou, Shiao-Lan (Lecturer). Through the “Design Illustration” course, students were encouraged to observe daily life issues and transform them into creative inspiration. The course also integrated the national art competition process, providing a complete framework from creation and campus selection to official submission.

Notably, during the on-campus selection, Ming Chuan invited Laurent Tardy, a professor at Switzerland’s École Professionnelle des Arts Contemporains and renowned French picture book artist, to participate in the judging. This collaboration not only enhanced the professional rigor of the selection process but also promoted international art exchange.
