As the Christmas spirit fills the air, the Department of Commercial Design at Ming Chuan University will present the Year One Students “MERRY XMAS” Christmas Card Special Exhibition from December 12 to 18, 2025, along the 309 Corridor of the Design Building. This exhibition is guided by Professors Lin Chien-Hua and Chen GoYen, with all works produced using the department’s Risograph (Riso) printing machine in the “Maker Space.” The layered colors and textured dot patterns create a unique print charm, bringing a visually striking mix of avant-garde and retro aesthetics to campus.
In the “Basic Design” course, students not only learn graphic composition but also gain hands-on experience with professional printing equipment. The inherent misregistration effect of Riso printing ensures that each Christmas card carries a unique tactile warmth. Students also experimented beyond traditional red and green, freely combining over ten inks—including gold, neon pink, neon green, neon orange, blue, black, and white—to produce diverse styles ranging from psychedelic and luxurious to playful, showcasing the students’ fearless creativity.
Displaying the works in the 309 Corridor highlights the “learning by doing” philosophy of the department. Through practical experience, students are introduced early to printing workflows and paper characteristics, laying a solid foundation for future professional design work. For high school students aspiring to study design, Ming Chuan Commercial Design offers excellent faculty and comprehensive facilities, providing an ideal environment to build practical skills and portfolio-ready creations.
