The Department of Commercial Design at Ming Chuan University has once again achieved outstanding results at the internationally renowned youth design competition “Young Ones ADC.” Sound of Shovels (《鏟聲》), created by Hung Chien-Ya, Lee Yun-Chun, and Lin Yu-Chin under the guidance of professors Yu Shu-Yin and Chen Go-Yen, won the Gold Award. Meanwhile, GROWLSIP (《獸語》), created by Tsai Cheng-Chun, Chang Pei-Hsuan, and Yeh Yen-Ting under the mentorship of professors Gong Shi-Min and Fang Ching-Jung, received the Merit Award.
The award-winning project Sound of Shovels draws inspiration from the post-disaster reconstruction efforts in Matai’an, Hualien, transforming the emotional process of collective healing into photography and IP design. GROWLSIP, on the other hand, uses eerie visual storytelling to explore humanity’s fascination with gossip and curiosity. Both works demonstrate Ming Chuan students’ exceptional abilities in social observation, visual narrative, and internationally minded design thinking. The projects may also qualify for substantial recognition grants from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education under the “Design Battle Strategy” initiative.
This internationally acclaimed achievement highlights the Department of Commercial Design’s strong practical training and remarkable creative synergy between faculty and students. As a frequent participant in globally recognized creative competitions, the department not only provides students with opportunities to connect with leading international design and advertising agencies, but also offers one-on-one mentorship from experienced instructors, enabling students to gain world-class practical experience during their studies.
